Labor Dimensions Augmented
Labor Dimensions Augmented is a sculpture exploring concepts of time, mythology, and technology. It was displayed in the group show In Medias Res at Bravin Lee Gallery from July 18 to August 18, 2016.
This sculpture begins with 3D scans of of my body, the 3D scan is then modeled into the radial form of the final piece. Next this model is 3D printed. Then the sculpture is cast in iron. Finally there is an augmented reality model targeted to the sculpture. Augmented reality is a live direct or indirect view of a physical, real-world environment whose elements are augmented (or supplemented) by computer-generated sensory input such as sound, video, graphics or GPS data. To view the augment first you must download the Augment app here. Then using your smart phone or tablet, scan the target image within the Augment app. The use of the artists body and the number twelve references Hercules twelve labors. One of these labors included stealing the golden apples of Hesperides. This sculpture points to the lasting impact of myth throughout time both with the repeating hands in radial symmetry and the juxtaposition of ancient and new media technologies. |
